Synopsis:

Before the Prescott family became big in the hockey world, there was just Noah Prescott, fighting for a spot on an NHL roster. Never did he imagine a simple note from a shy fan would speed up his world.

Ryleigh Scott had an issue talking to men, but she knew she couldn’t pass up the opportunity to talk to Noah — potentially negative labels, be damned. Never did she imagine a simple note would start what could only be described as the beginning of the rest of her life. This is Noah and Ryleigh — before the NHL contract, before the kids, before going back home. This is Noah and Ryleigh from the beginning.

My Review

Mignon Mykel's debut was a sweet love story of growing to understand not only yourself but the people you love. From the Beginning follows Noah Prescott, a hockey player in the minor leagues looking to make an NHL roster when he receives a letter from Ryleigh Scott after a game. Ryleigh is a quiet, sort of awkward substitute teacher who loves photography and has a big crush on Noah. As hockey fan she's admired him from afar as soon as the team came to town. When she finally gets the guts to introduce herself to Noah, she's too nervous to actually talk to him so she has her friend give him a note. From there these two continue to cross paths eventually starting something that neither is exactly sure how to navigate.

From the Beginning was a slow burn of two people unsure of what they wanted or needed but found comfort in each other. Noah was a typical hockey player not looking for long term love but the more time he spent with Ryleigh the more he saw something in her that he wanted and needed. Ryleigh was not the type to go out and take what she wanted, but when pushed toward Noah, they seemed to  naturally fall into a companionship neither wanted to let go of.

While both Noah and Ryleigh frustrated me at times, I could understand their internal struggles. They were actually very different, but their differences is what made them so relatable. This story wasn't heavy on sexy times, yet I could feel the tension and desire through my Kindle. Plus that epilogue was just EVERYTHING. I've got a big, huge smile just thinking about it. I actually read it twice because it was just so sweetly swoony and the prefect lead into the rest of the Prescott's and their stories. Do yourself a favor and fall in love with Noah right From the Beginning.

ABOUT MIGNON MYKEL

Mignon Mykel

Mignon is a twenty-something (…getting awfully close to thirty-something) who resides in Wisconsin. An avid reader since her preschool days, she ‘blames’ her mother for teaching her to read during that all-important time during a forming brain. Some of her earlier memories of reading include her mother buying her a book at the mall — and finishing the book before they even returned home.

Writing happened soon after the reading started. Her first writing piece can be found in a box of other important papers from growing up. It’s about an apple who was her friend, but she had to eat.

The first series Mignon started to write was about a close family of one brother and his three younger sisters. She started writing this family and their friends in 2005, but as soon as the Prescott family took over her mind, the Ashbys fell silent. Maybe someday we’ll all hear from the Ashbys, but those Prescotts…. The Prescotts are excited to have their stories told.
