*** Cover Reveal & Giveaway *** Housing Elephants by Eleanor Lloyd-Jones

Book: Housing Elephants

Author: Eleanor Lloyd-Jones

Genre: New Adult

Release Date: 20th November

Synopsis

“… And the greatest of these is love.”

Love is patient and kind… Its strength can build bridges and knock down walls. It can give people hope - a purpose. But there is a side to love that is unforgiving and cruel - a side to love that breaks hearts.

Love can suffocate, and love can turn to hate.

Billy Taylor meandered through life, only ever giving half. Ruled by his father’s grief, he gave up on his own dreams in a bid to keep life ticking along, desperately craving the unconditional love of his parents. It wasn’t until Eve Swallow fell into his life again, rousing his empty heart, that he dared to hope for a chance to live life on his terms.

Never quite good enough in the eyes of her overpowering mother, Eve kept herself locked away inside her own head, immersing herself in her passion for art and music, and doing anything in her power to avoid getting close to anyone. When she connected with Billy’s eyes, that still haunted her dreams after so long, fear kicked in, and all she could do was the one thing she was sure would protect her…

Run.

If two lost souls collided and a love so deep was born, it would surely take a herd of elephants to tear them apart…

Meet the Author

Raised in a little village in North Wales, a fierce love of books and reading was instilled in Eleanor by her parents from a very early age, and she has vivid memories of reading secretly under the blankets with a torch for hours after lights out, often getting caught! She was blown away by The Borribles Trilogy - Michael De Larrabeiti at nine years old, and it was then that she fell head over heels with idea of imaginary worlds.

A persistent and professional daydreamer, something she still prides herself on being, she spent most of her early childhood inside her own head making up stories or scenarios, climbing trees, building dens or doing anything arts and crafty. Music also played a huge part of her young life. Growing up on The Beatles, U2 and Status Quo, her obsession with Top of the Pops and vinyl twelve inches grew into a love affair with music that has only grown and expanded over time: there is rarely a moment where music is not playing in her life, and in turn, rarely a time when she is not singing, even if it is in her head!

She had always thought she would write a book some day - it has been an ambition for as long as she can remember - and has always been told that she ‘has a way with words’. Over the years, she’s dabbled in the odd piece of prose, helped friends to write letters and résumés and prides herself on her hilarious lyrical genius when composing poems for friends birthdays! Life, however, got in the way and her dream was stored on the back burner as she put herself through university and started a family. It was only when she was nearing the ‘forty’ milestone that she decided it was time she got some of the ramblings and chatterings in her head down on paper.

A creative, guitar-playing mum of one boisterous, but pretty damn cool boy, she classes herself as a Yorkshire gal now after moving to Leeds when she was eleven. Eleanor works full time as a teacher, but grabs every spare minute she can to write; be it on the train, lunchtimes at school or foregoing sleep for an extra hour or two in the evenings. Her hope for the future is for people to fall in love with her characters as much as she does. Not a big ask really!

Ignite (Explosive #1)

Excerpt

“It’s fine, Jeremy. I promise. I have no problem being the Tod to your Copper. Or the Joey to your Dawson. That’s who I am.” She hesitated for a brief moment. “That’s who I’ll always be. You’re my best friend, Jeremy. It’s okay that you don’t see my boobs. Hell, it’s probably better that way.”

My stomach plummeted and if I was man enough to admit it, my eyes burned with an unexpected rush of tears. I stepped back, out of the streetlight so she couldn’t see me. It was a move she misinterpreted, but before I could find a single ounce of courage, she was waving goodbye and running into her house, leaving me there to watch her go.

Something I never wanted to do again.

It wasn’t until after Sierra left for Ohio and I had a chance to reflect on her words that I realized what she’d said. Dawson and Joey, as of right then, weren’t even speaking. Copper and Tod went their separate ways, and even though their friendship remained, they were still apart for the rest of their lives.

I didn’t want to be Copper anymore. I sure as hell didn’t want to be Dawson.

But it was too late. I’d lost my chance. I’d missed my window. Sierra was gone and there was nothing I could do about it.

Jenna was right.

I was an idiot.

My Review

Having read several of Tessa Teevan's novels and having just reread Ignite, I was super excited to read Sierra and Jeremy's story. From meeting them in Ignite, I knew (mostly) how their story was going to play out and I expected to really enjoy it. In reality I more than enjoyed this story and absolutely fell in love with Jeremy, Sierra, Ava and their slightly crazy but completely beautiful story. It was hilarious, heart-meltingly sweet, surprisingly emotional, and, in the end, literally perfect. It is now my favorite Tessa Teevan book to date and one of my favorite books period.

While this could be read as a standalone, I would suggest at least reading Ignite first so that you can get a better background on Sierra and Jeremy as well as Alexa and Jace who play a pretty prominent role in their story.

Jeremy and Sierra's story starts in the present. Sierra's sister, Alexa is in the hospital having her first child when their precocious 6 year old daughter Ava asks one of her ill time and many times inappropriate questions after over hearing her crazy parents talking. That discussion leads to Sierra and Jeremy, in alternating point of views, telling their story starting from when Sierra moved in next door to Jeremy when they were 8 years old. Sierra and Jeremy tell their love story that starts with a spit shake to declare themselves best friends, to growing up and starting to look at each other as more than best friends but not having the guts to declare themselves, to watching them fall in love and build a life and family together.

While they'll tell you that their story lacks angst since they've always been together, in reality it actually lacks for nothing. These two are hilariously crazy. Both open and honest with each other. I laughed out loud all the way through the story. Both Jeremy and Sierra's antics had me in stitches. I also sighed and swooned every time these two were together. Their love and devotion to each other from the very beginning was nothing short of inspiring. Watching them come to terms with their evolving relationship made my heart happy.

Jeremy is a to die for book boyfriend and was perfectly imperfect. He was silly but completely and utterly devoted to Sierra from the very beginning. This story didn't need added drama of them finding themselves because they found each other when they were 8.

While most of their story was very happy, go lucky. Any relationship hits snags along the way and they were no different. But watching them work together and continue to fall deeper in love with each other even during the hard times, made me a believe in true love and soul mates. I was also pulled into their story as I was able to relive my childhood through theirs. Being as in 1992, I was 7 (while Sierra and Jeremy were 8), I was able to relieve some of my favorite childhood memories through their eyes. Tessa did a phenomenal job of evoking memories based on music and timely events to help tell their story and pull me along for the ride.

Getting to see a young Alexa and Jace as well as Alexa and Ty (to understand you really need to read Ignite), was a highlight. Watching Sierra and Jeremy and their influence on that story made me smile and giggle. Then as Sierra and Jeremy's own story started to unfold beyond the present, we got a glimpse of their future that left my heart completely full. Watching them live out their happily ever after cemented them as one of my favorite book couples and Jeremy as one of my absolute favorite book boyfriends. Plus with that little epilogue from Ava's point of view, I'm eagerly anticipating the next installment.

If you're looking for a true love story with undying devotion, giggle inducing banter, a swoony hero, and a sassy heroine with a dash down 90's and early 00's memory lane, this story is absolutely for you.

It was official.

I hated my job.

By the time the subway pulled into the station closest to my house, I was a sweaty, disgusting mess. My hair had fallen out of its artfully styled chignon. My feet had blisters the size of pancakes from traipsing all around the city in the sweltering summer heat. Harlow’s pretty blouse had a coffee stain across the right boob where I’d tripped and spilled Rowan’s coffee down the front of myself—meaning I had to go back and wait in the long ass line at The Bean a second time. And I was pretty sure a panhandler shoved his hand up my skirt on the subway ride home. The whipped, puss-y topping on the shit sundae that was my day were the million and one text messages I received from Rowan needing me to run yet another errand.

None of those messages were of him asking. Oh, no, they were rude and demanding in nature, and I had to stop myself on multiple occasions from hurling my beloved iPhone into oncoming traffic.

By the time I made it back to his apartment with all his requested items, the coffee had long since grown cold, mimicking his icy attitude.

As I limped up the steps to mine and Harlow’s apartment, I kept thinking of all the reasons I wanted to quit, following closely with all the reasons I couldn’t, i.e. my rent and other such necessities.

“Hello, pumpkin. How was your first day?” Harlow asked in an all too chipper voice once I came through the front door.

“I hate my boss!” I yelled like a crazy person before collapsing to the floor and spreading out on the cool, laminate wood, basking in the feel of it against my overly heated skin.

“What the hell? What happened?” Harlow asked as she took a seat on the floor next to me, brushing my sweat-slicked hair back from my face.

“You mean other than working for a twat-waffle who’s the love child of Satan and that ‘Mommy Dearest’ lady?”

“You mean Joan Crawford?”

“That’s the one.”

“Was he really that bad?”

“Remember that asshole William Chandler from sophomore year?”

Her face scrunched up as she tried to recall who I was talking about. “You mean that dickhead football player, who used to bark at all the girls he thought were ugly?”

“Yep.”

“Oh, shit. That bad?”

“Multiply that times a million and you’ll have Rowan Locklaine.”

Harlow’s gaze grew sympathetic. “Aww, sweetie, I’m so sorry.”

“And if that wasn’t bad enough, I’m pretty sure I lost my no-no hole virginity to a hobo on the subway.”

I was being completely serious. So when Harlow let out an indelicate snort and collapsed in a heap of hysterical laughter next to me, I couldn’t find it in me to share with her in the humor of the situation.

“I’m glad you find my pain so hilarious,” I deadpanned from my spread-eagle position on the floor of our entryway.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” she sputtered, tears trailing down her face. “I know it’s not supposed to be funny, but you should see your face right now!”

I was just about to respond with something brilliantly snarky when my cell phone rang from inside my purse. With a groan of pain, I twisted sideways and retrieved it before going back to my original position.

“Shit,” I muttered as I looked at the screen.

“Who is it? Is it him?”

“No, it’s Lauren. Probably calling to tell me I’ve been fired.”

Harlow whacked me on the shoulder, eliciting a pout from me. “Stop being so negative. Answer the phone and I’ll go pour you a glass of wine.”

“In the big glass?” I asked hopefully, referring to the wineglass-shaped vase we found on clearance a year or so ago. It was what we considered our ’emergency glass’.

“Yes, in the big glass, you big baby. Now, answer the damn phone already.”

I received this book in exchange for my honest opinion and all I can say is thank goodness I did!  As soon as I read the blurb for Jessica Prince’s latest novel Love Hate Relationship my interest was piqued.  Book #3 in the Colors Series, is based on characters introduced in the previous books but reads effortlessly as a standalone novel.

Navie Collins had a horrible childhood and adolescents.  Life had taught her that she would never be good enough and that no one would ever want her.  And she believed it whole-heartedly. But with the help of her best friend Harlow she had finally come out of her shell through college, and was now ready to take life by the balls…starting with her job interview.  Unbeknown to her, her life is about to take a rocky turn when she finds herself working for the arrogant, womanizing and down right infuriating Rowan Locklaine.

Rowan Locklaine had a past filled with pain as well.  He’d let his guard down once and was left heartbroken and betrayed.  Bitter and angry he lived his life with the rule that women were good for one thing and one thing only … one-night stands.  His wild ways had caught up with him however, and his professional career as a best selling author was in jeopardy.  So when his publicist saw a fiery spark in the young Navie Collins, she hired her hoping that she may just be the one person brave enough to take Rowan on head to head.

Despite their mutual loathing of one another and Navies’ daily desire to quit her job, they both felt an attraction for each other that seemed to intensify every time they started to argue.  I lost count of how many times this book had me laughing my arse off.  The banter between not only Navie and Rowan, but also between the secondary characters was fantastic, especially the scene with Tomas and Rowan!

But this book had so much more than that.  Gah the feels!  Oh so many emotions in one book.  From laugh out loud funny, to hot angry lust, to moments where the unmistakable lump formed in my throat, and tears pricked my eyes telling me that I’d just found myself a new one-click author to add to the collection.  There is a fine line between love and hate and this book displays it perfectly.

From cover to cover I read it in one sitting and it’s ending left wanting more.  Setting up the next book in the series, which will be Harlow’s story, I’ll be making use of the time while I’m waiting for it to come out by going back and reading the rest of the books in Jessica Prince’s collection.
