Synopsis

“After battling through hell, I brought my esclave back from the brink of ruin. I sacrificed everything—my heart, my mind, my very desires to bring her back to life. And for a while, I thought it broke me, that I’d never be the same. But slowly the beast is growing bolder, and it’s finally time to show Tess how beautiful the dark can be.”

Q gave everything to bring Tess back. In return, he expects nothing less. Tess may have leashed and tamed him, but he’s still a monster inside.

After surviving the darkness, a new dawn has begun. Twisted Together wades through black to grey, chasing the light of true love to banish the shadows forever.

Pain is a requirement, connection a necessity. But ultimately Q and Tess must face their demons, before they can embrace their future.

My Review

Awww… when I got my copy of Twisted Together it was such a bittersweet moment. I have been looking forward to this for months and yet I didn’t want to start it because I knew it was going to be the last in such an amazing series. I just did not want to say goodbye to Q and Tess.

Q *swoon*, Yes I said swoon. He may be dark and twisted and have demons and monsters he battles with on a daily basis but one thing is for certain…he loves and worships Tess with all he is. His love for her is beyond anything I have read. If I ever believed two people were one it would be Tess and Q. If I believed in reincarnation and all that (not saying I do or don’t) I would truly believe they would find their way back to each other.

The intensity they love with and the fierceness they fight with is just all consuming and takes over every part of you. I got so lost in the passion and power of this book that nothing around me mattered. We see a different side to Q in Twisted Together. Oh trust me the same Q we all fell in love with (even if some of us are too afraid to admit it). He is still there and as ruthless as ever. But we get glimpses of a softer Q. One that will literally take your breath away with his adoration for Tess.

“Listen to me, Tess. Nothing and I mean nothing can stop me from loving you. I don’t fucking care if you no longer need pain. I’ve sworn my life to you—if you’ll still have me—don’t you ever feel guilty for this.”

“But it isn’t enough.”
She used her hair as a cloak to hide her true despair, but I saw it. Fuck, I tasted it.
“It isn’t enough for you,” she breathed.

She’s right.

I hated that she was right.

We also see a new Tess in Twisted Together. We have seen the strong Tess that fights and we have seen the broken Tess who doesn’t feel worthy. We thought Q cured her from all self-hatred because of the events that occurred in Quintessentially Q but really, she is just as broken as ever. No matter how hard Q has tried, he can’t rid her of her hellish nightmares every night. He can’t take away the visions of her sins when she closes her eyes and it is killing him.

Q is willing to do anything to save Tess, to bring her out of her darkness. He can’t stand the lies she tells and the fake smiles she wears. The girl who was once the perfect complement to the dark monsters living within him is gone. She is a hollow shell of a woman. Q vows to do anything he can to bring back the strong Tess he fell in love with…even if it means he could lose her forever.

“Let me fight them for you, escalve.”
My fingers tightened around the delicate cord of muscles. She felt so breakable, so damageable. It was a lie. Her body may bleed, her bones may break, but her mind? That was a fucking fortress.

And I wanted in.

I have to say out of all three books I think the Tess we see in this book was my favorite. She most definitely has been through so much but she truly finds herself in Twisted Together. She allows herself to feel and be the woman she is meant to be.

The first part of this book went a bit slow for me. I felt as if Tess and Q were both really confused and battling with who they are vs. who they should be. I definitely understood their issues and why they felt like they did but I felt as if I were reading in circles a bit. Then it switched. I was so completely immersed into this book that I didn’t even realize my two year old twins squirted a bottle of ketchup and a bottle of mayo all the kitchen floor!!!! Not the easiest thing to clean up either!

This book had me swooning, it had me a bit terrified and it had me on edge- afraid of what was to come. It also had me laughing out loud several times throughout. The best was when Q met Brax. It was hilarious. While Q is possessive and all man, Brax is softer and as Q likes to say “a little twerp” or “a fuckwit”. Bhahaha oh how I love Q.!

“Brax, stop it. Q, don’t judge him until you know him. He’s a good friend and you need---“

“I don’t need to do anything, escalve. He’s seen you naked. I’ll never be his friend. So don’t expect it to be all rugby games and fucking unicorns.”

I loved Q and Tess’s relationships with other characters in this book as well. I love Suzette and I really started to love Franco too. I loved seeing a more playful side to Q and Franco, a little guy banter back and forth. It was a good break from some heavy matters in this book. I definitely think Suzette needs a book. We have heard bits and pieces of her story and have seen her grown over the course of the Monsters In The Dark series. With everything she has been through, her loyalty to Q and her friendship with Tess, I think she deserves one hell of an HEA.

The ending to Tess and Q’s story is just beautiful. It was one of the absolute most unique and perfectly fitting conclusions to a storyline I have ever read.

And then there was the Epilogue…again, amazing! I am so glad Pepper included that as part of their storyline. It gave us the closure that I think we all needed. It made the storyline of all three books come together and go full circle.

A huge thank you to Pepper Winters for such an amazing series. I am a huge dark romance fan and I owe it all to her. Tears of Tess was my first dark read and I’ll admit…it terrified me before I even started it. Q and Tess’s story may have come to an end (well maybe not ;) ) but I am looking forward to some of Pepper’s upcoming projects. Such an amazing writer, I’m sure she has another equally as dark yet loveable hero in the works!
