Synopsis

Elizabeth Lewis was the child of Hollywood’s darling couple, until her father murdered her mother.

Six years later, she has traded her flashy, luxurious lifestyle for one of safe anonymity as a literary agent. With a different name and appearance, Liza Winter is living the life of her dreams—one where she’s known for who she is instead of what her father did. Except her apartment should be condemned, her car only starts when it wants, she hates the romance genre she has been assigned, and the CEO’s deliciously attractive nephew is out to ruin her carefully laid plans.

Reid Harder has never met an obstacle he couldn’t overcome. When his new position in the romance department comes with a benefit his uncle didn’t mention, he decides to wage a war against the intelligent, beautiful Liza to destroy every argument she has for turning him down. Still, the closer he gets to winning the prize, the more he realizes that the woman is keeping secrets that may endanger not just her life but his.
Will Liza overcome her mistrust of Reid to reveal her secrets before he learns the truth and walks away? Or will a grudge-wielding apparition from her past make her the next deadly Hollywood headline?

My Review

I've never really read a romance/suspense book before this one, so I wasn't too sure how I would like the combination. But after reading IF I Say Yes, I'm excited to say that I really liked it and will be on the look out for more books like this one.

The book opens with a whooper of a prologue! Not that its long but rather it's just so intense. Poor Elizabeth is witness to her mother's murder at the hands of her own father. Talk about setting the tone for what's to come.

Now 6 years later we meet Liza, gone is Elizabeth, now we have Liza, a young women who has changed her image and created a new identity and life in order to escape the horror of her past. Today, Liza works in one of the biggest publishing companies, unhappily in the romance department (as she no longer believes in love), she would much rather be working in the horror/thriller department. Once a party girl and wild child, Liza is now a bit of a recluse and sticks to herself and her only friend Eli.

That is until Reid Harder enters the scene. Reid is Liza’s new super sexy and confident boss, he immediately begins to challenge her on so many work and personal levels. Liza has built so many iron clad walls around herself that she never expected anyone, let alone a man to ever have her thinking about lowering them.

It all starts with some flirting by Reid upon their meeting and the crazy reaction that Liza has to him that has her second-guessing her life plan. I really loved watching Reid push her buttons; he has some great lines that  made me smile. He is so confident and makes it no secret that he is sooooo interested in Liza. Watching her trying to deny her growing feelings was so frustrating I wanted to smack her sometimes! But she finally starts to listen to her heart rather than her head.

As these two are slowly figuring things out, the sexual tension rising, and she's finally beginning to let her guard down… Liza starts getting super creepy emails. Emails telling her that she better start being honest with people about her identity and that she will soon be exposed. Ones that threaten to hurt her and the people she now cares about. It’s quickly becomes clear that she is being stalked, stalked by someone from her past that knows everything about her, someone who’s not happy with her.

Rather then tell anyone Liza just lets it go. And decides to deal with it on her own, which in reality just means she does nothing! Crazy girl!  As the book progresses we see more and more threats coming to her, and the hamster wheel in my head starts turning and I'm trying to figure out who the hell was doing all these awful things to her. I have to say I didn’t see that one coming! This is where I thought this genre was refreshing. I liked tying to solve a mystery all the while reading the growing love story including all the hot shit coming out of Reid’s mouth as he tries to convince Liza to be with him.

Despite not being filled with a crazy amount of hot dirty sex, this book doesn’t really need it, as the plot is so well planned that it all just flowed and kept my interest (which I found shocking!) lol. Now don’t get me wrong! I’m a huge romance/erotica fan, but I think this book had enough flirting, dirty talking, super hot kisses and FINALLY when they do have sex it’s pretty frickin' hot.
