Synopsis
The guy she wants…
Growing up on the coast of Maine
with a revolving door of foster siblings, Caitlyn Michaud spent one intense and
passionate year falling in love with her foster brother, Heath. Then he left
without a word. The betrayal devastated Caitlyn and made her vow to forget the
compelling bad boy. But forgetting his sensual touch and their deep
all-consuming friendship is easier said than done.
Isn’t the guy she needs…
Determined to move on, in college
Caitlyn has risen above her small town impoverished roots and has joined a
sorority, reinvented her appearance, and landed the right boyfriend. Pre-law
major and frat president, Ethan, is thoughtful and always laughing, and he
makes her feel happy, calm. He also gives her the social acceptance she craves.
But the perfect world she tried so
hard to attain is ripped apart when Heath appears one night out of nowhere. Caitlyn
remembers all the reasons why she loves him, even if they don’t make sense to
anyone but her. Out of the military, Heath is as brooding and intense as ever,
and he is determined not only to win her back, but to exact revenge on everyone
who kept him from her…
And when one love allows her to
breathe, but the other feels as essential to her life as air, how does she
choose between them?
My Review
If
you’re looking for a sweet and emotional story about loosing the love of your
life and finding it again, then this is the perfect book for you! McCarthy sets
the tone of a love that is so sweet and innocent in a beautifully written
prologue.
“I don’t exist without you, you know that right?”
Despite
being short, the prologue helps set the tone for our heroine and the emotional
journey she endures in order to recover from the boy who left her broken
hearted four years ago. I loved this prologue! I could really feel the
connection between Heath and Cat, as well as the sadness that enveloped her as
she recalled the day she last saw Heath.
Fast
forward four years ahead…Caitlyn, now twenty is attending college and has completely
reinvented herself, gone is the tomboy who never cared about what she looked
like or what people thought of her. The new Caitlyn is vice president of her
sorority, well dressed, has lots of friends and the social life that goes along
with it. Caitlyn is also dating Ethan, the pre-law safe choice of a boyfriend
who has helped to repair her heart. She
is happy, living the life she's convinced herself she wants.
That
is until Homecoming when Heath, the love of her life shows up all brooding, and
sexy. Heath is hot! He is a former Marine who has come to fight to take back
what’s his. He’s come for Cat, his soul mate and he’s determined to get her back
where she belongs…with him!
“Because you make me. Because I didn’t exist, not in
any way that matters, until I met you”.
The
moment Heath emerges the pages seemed to spark back to life. I have to admit
that Ethan didn’t do it for me at all. I just didn’t feel a connection between
him and Caitlyn. But Cat and Heath holy
sparks flying Batman! As the book
progresses Heath lays his heart on the line telling Cat why he left and that he
never stopped loving her. He has sworn to fight for her and vows to never give
up. With this admission we start to see and feel a perfect mix of angst and
confusion, for Cat as almost instantly this reunion begins to wreak havoc with
her emotions and in turn her relationship with Ethan. I liked the use of
flashbacks to help give some perspective of how Cat and Heath moved from
friends to lovers. I think this helped me to validate some of the choices she
made while finding her way back to Heath.
Once
Cat gives in to the undeniable connection she has with Heath we are treated to some
hot sex scenes!
“Cat.” He took my hand and put it on his
erection.
“We’ve been kissing for less than ten minutes and I
want you so desperately I can’t even think. I’ve loved you for five years. I’ve
thought about our one and only time together a million times, wishing I had one
more chance, just one more kiss, one more touch. “
Overall,
I enjoyed this book; I liked witnessing Cat and Heath’s journey to finding their
way back to love and each other. Despite the struggles along the way they were
able to rebuild trust, and fought to not let insecurity take over.
