Ethan is the boy who climbed into my bedroom every night.

He’s everything I love.
Laced with everything I despise.

He’s every happy memory.
And every shattered dream.

He’s my everything.
But he broke every part of me.

I’m supposed to hate him.
But I can’t.
I don’t know how.

My Review

Broken Dreams is a second chance story for two high school sweethearts who are torn apart for 8 years before life shows them a path that may just lead back to where they started. Leslie and Ethan had a rocky road but so much of it is intertwined. When hate and love are two sides to the same coin, life gets messy.

Ethan and Leslie met when they were just kids. As neighbors Leslie saw a part of Ethan's life that no one else did and one night changed the course of their lives. Every night they share quiet time as Ethan climbs into Leslie's room. They share their hopes and dreams and are determined to make Leslie's come true together. But one night changes everything and eight years later, Leslie is back for the first time since she left. The wounds Ethan created are still as fresh as the day it all happened. Yet time changes things and reality isn't always black and white. Leslie has spent nearly a decade trying to hate her first love and most of the time she feels like she's succeeding. But coming face to face brings back every single thing she ever felt and it's not good. Not at all.

I read this emotional story in one sitting. I was so curious about what happened as the Leslie's story went from past to present (and I'm not usually one who likes it when stories go back and forth). As their story unfolded and the complexity of their relationship was realized, I was hooked. I also really liked how the author incorporated her other series into this leaving a couple little Easter eggs that made me remanence about her Love Letter duet. I was expecting a bit more angst but overall this story was really enjoyable and this heart racing romance was another win for Callie Anderson.
