Beautiful Sacrifice is Book 2 in the Thin Red Lines Series by Gen Ryan and follows on shortly after where Beautiful Masterpiece ends.  This book could easily be read as a standalone because it is a complete storyline all of it’s own, but I would definitely recommend reading Beautiful Masterpiece first, just so you can know the backstory of some of the main characters and the relationships they all have with each other.

After graduating from the FBI Academy, Avery Grant is assigned to a serial killer case and is partnered up with Detective Evan Bradley to find the Satanic Cult responsible. The chemistry between them is immediate, but Avery is determined to fight against the pull she feels towards him.  The FBI is her life, she has worked with the singular focus of getting where she is today, which means there is no room for emotions or attachments, and definitely no room for love.  But when she starts to feel Evan getting under her skin and chipping away at the walls she has so carefully succeeded in keeping in place, will she let him in or will she run away.

This book has me conflicted.  I love the darkness and the twists and turns of this story and you get a real sense of Gen Ryan’s passion for getting deep into the minds of her characters twisted emotions and taking us on a suspense filled journey, but I found myself getting frustrated at times that the suspense side of the criminal investigation was rushed and lacking detail, and the characters sometimes acted in ways that weren’t believable to the situations they were facing at the time which would pull me out of the story.  Saying that I did enjoy reading it and how the inner turmoil of the characters shaped the storyline and the chemistry between Avery and Evans was oh so good. The subject matter is as dark as you would expect from a serial killer story but it’s not as confronting as the storyline of book one. And I would definitely recommend it to readers.  Oh and if there is ever a story written about how Luke and his wife Airi met I will be one happy lady!

You can find Genevieve curled up reading paranormal romance and romantic thrillers, or frantically typing her stories on her laptop.

Psychology is her trade by day, teaching and molding the minds of college students. Her interest in psychology can be seen in her books, each including many psychological undertones. Although she loves teaching, her passion, her true love, lays in the stories that roam around her in head. Yes, they all come from her mind-the good, the bad, and the totally insane.

She lives in Massachusetts-no not Boston-with her husband, daughter, and American Eskimo dog. With each story she shares, she hopes her love for writing and storytelling seeps through, encompassing the reader and leaving them wanting more.
