*** BLOG TOUR & REVIEW *** The Effects of Falling by Mariah Dietz

Title: The Effects of Falling
Series: The Weight of Rain Duet #2
Author: Mariah Dietz
Release Date: Aug 2, 2016

I have loved my best friend for eleven years.

Eleven years of celebrations.
Eleven years of victories and losses.
Eleven years of inside jokes and shared smiles.
Eleven years of helping him raise his daughter as a single father.

He smiles at me and my world brightens.
He ignores me and I forget how to function.
He holds my hand and takes more of my heart.
He leaves and time stops.

We have both lost too much, but am I willing to risk the effects of falling again?

My Review

The Effects of Falling is an interconnected story following The Weight of Rain. This is the story of Summer and Kash who are integral parts of book 1. They've been best friends for 11 years but that's all they've been and it's slowing killing Summer. She's been in love with Kash for as long as she's know him but having met him just months after his fiancee died and watching him raise a baby on his own, made it impossible for her to tell him her feelings. But 11 years is a long time to put your life on hold for another person and just when she thinks she's never be able to have him the way she wants, things change again. But then don't go at all to plan.

I loved The Weight of Rain and while I liked The Effects of Falling, it didn't quite have the same impact on me. I was so excited to see their relationship play out but it both felt like it happened really quickly and kind of exaggerated at the same time. I just didn't quite understand where their back and forth came from and then the resolution seemed to pop up unexpectedly very quickly. I did enjoy getting more from one of my favorite families though and have hope that we'll get a story from the crazy flirt of the bunch Parker. Overall the story was a good addition to the the Falling family of stories, I just wanted a bit more on the relationship front. Though if you're looking for a single dad story with unrequited love, this one will work well.

The Weight of Rain (#1) – Released Oct 27, 2015

One night changed my life-one that I barely remember.

When I close my eyes, my mind paints a picture of his smile and shades the contours of his hands, the deep scar around his bicep.

I'm an artist, yet my hands are unsteady. With his presence, he has unknowingly broken that something inside of me that makes me who I am.

Being around him is like standing in a rainstorm. First the drops tickle my skin, and then they coat me, refusing to be ignored. Finally, they soak into me, reaching parts of me I don't think anyone has ever touched.

When dreams turn into reality, will the picture in my mind transfer to paper?
