“I own you. I have the piece of paper to prove it. It’s undeniable and unbreakable. You belong to me until you’ve paid off your debts.”
Nila Weaver’s family is indebted. Being the first born daughter, her life is forfeit to the first born son of the Hawks to pay for sins of ancestors past. The dark ages might have come and gone, but debts never leave. She has no choice in the matter.
She is no longer free.
Jethro Hawk receives Nila as an inheritance present on his twenty-ninth birthday. Her life is his until she’s paid off a debt that’s centuries old. He can do what he likes with her—nothing is out of bounds—she has to obey.
There are no rules. Only payments.
A modern day Dark Erotic Romance

OH MY. Well, this book was certainly a big surprise! Debt Inheritance is dark, twisted, erotic and written brilliantly in total Pepper Winters style.

Dark Romance is my favourite genre and I am also a huge Pepper fan. So going into this book, I was super excited!! I really do enjoy reading fucked up stories that leave you thinking WHAT THE HELL did I just read and this was certainly one of those for me. While I personally didn’t love it, It definitely is a dark, brutal story that will keep you guessing and leave you begging for book two! Also, be warned, it may be erotic but very few of those scenes are erotic in ways many romance readers will enjoy. This book is not sweet or even romantic in any way, shape or form so readers I would keep that in mind when deciding whether or not this book is for you.

He looked an enigma of motorcycle world and English aristocracy.

So we meet Jethro, the first born son of a Hawk for his generation. This means the ‘debt’ to be paid by Nila Weaver becomes his responsibility. She is his possession for reasons that become known towards the end of Debt Inheritance. Honestly, Jethro is an evil son of a bitch who thrives on knowing he is feared by everyone, he enjoys the thrill of the chase, he is a hunter, a diamond smuggler, a dealer and about to become a killer.

I truly was Cinderella, only my prince threw away the glass slipper and stole me away before midnight struck. My prince was evil. My prince was the villain. - Nila

Now I do have a thing for rooting for the bad guys, but I just couldn’t connect with Jethro. He intrigued me from the very beginning and I wanted to know more, I wanted to know what made him the way he is. However, as the story went on, I felt as though I didn’t get enough from him to make me understand him better, I’m really hoping I get more from this brooding, sexy man in book two. I don’t believe he is beyond redemption completely but I do believe there is no way to fix things where Nila is involved. Do I foresee a happy ending for them? No, I honestly don’t. BUT, I can not wait to see how Pepper turns this man around as we have been told in true Pepper style, there will in fact be a HEA for these two.

His cold fingers trailed from my mouth to my throat. Wrapping tight. Unforgiving. The action showed the truth-the inhuman truth. This man was fastidiously groomed and softly spoken, but beneath it all raged a devil in disguise. - Nila

Oh Nila, this twenty four year old first born Weaver woman had no idea what was coming for her the night of her fashion show in Milan. Nila is a successful fashion designer who has always lived a very sheltered life, surrounded by only her father, brother, needle and thread. Sewing and running have always been her outlets, this inexperienced closed off woman has never even been taken on a real date. Nila confused me throughout the story. Her thoughts confused me, her emotions were all over the place, as I’m sure anyone’s would be when put in that position but I don’t feel as though it was all believable. I was left unconvinced by Nila and totally unsure as to how I felt about her.

“I like it when you’re feisty. Your whole perception of the world is warped. You live in a fairytale, princess, and I’m about to destroy it.” - Jethro

While Pepper’s writing was nothing less than brilliant, I can’t say that I really enjoyed reading this book. Just saying this makes me sad and I’m really disappointed that I didn’t like it more. I felt the story was just too slow, and for me I had too many questions left unanswered. While I’m well aware this is the first in a dark serial, I feel there were TOO MANY parts that didn’t fully make sense as to why they had happened or were a part of the story because I just didn’t have enough knowledge about what was actually going on. I will be reading the next instalment because now I need to know where this story is headed, however I’m really hoping A LOT more comes out of book two. Otherwise I will reconsider finishing this series. This book may not have been a big hit for me but that doesn't mean it won't be for other dark romance lovers out there! Thank you Pepper for a very intriguing read.

The calligraphy of ancestors past sentenced me to a life worse than death. My rights had been taken. My life stolen. My body no longer mine. -Nila

ONE - Nina's POV
Huge disappointment, Ms. Weaver.” His cold glare sent a snowstorm wiping away the bonfire in my belly. “I’m done playing games, so cut the bullshit. Time to begin the day.” His voice gave no room for interpretation. A cold draft shot down my back.
My brief reprieve from debts and horrible Hawks was over. I’d been shown something I desperately wanted, but denied it because I failed to please him.
“You could teach me…show me how…” I couldn’t make eye contact with him. Mortification painted my cheeks for both admitting I was clueless and asking a monster to coach me.
Jethro laughed. “You think that will save you from what’s coming? Was that your little plan? To make me fuck you in the hopes I might feel something for you?”

TWO - Jethro's POV
I stood up slowly, clicking my tongue. “Ah, ah, ah, Ms. Weaver. Don’t take that tone with me. You’re the failure. You’re the prisoner. You take what I give you. You do not assume to have any say or authority. That includes listening to everything I deem important to tell you.” Ghosting to a stop in front of her, I murmured, “Is that quite understood?”
I flexed my muscles, welcoming back the soothing chillness of control. I hadn’t liked stepping outside my confines of civility. Things got messy when silence was disrupted. Things got rushed when tempers rose and curses flowed.
And I didn’t want to rush her undoing. I wanted to savour it. Devour it.
