My Review
From the spine-tingling moments that have you biting your nails and waiting on edge to find out what's about to happen, to the steamy, sexy scenes that will melt your panties; this book has it ALL. The Scars That Define Us is full of angst, betrayal and violence at it's worst, but it isn't without the good stuff too. The loyalty of those we consider our family, the lust and longing of what we desire most, and the unconditional love from those who have hold our hearts in their hands.
The Scars That Define Us is a heart- stirring, suspenseful, absolutely amazing follow up to the first book in this mc romance series, What Doesn't Destroy Us. This brilliantly written story held my full attention from the moment I started reading the first few pages. Needless to say, Dani and Shadow held me captive and I once again found myself completely immersed in the dark, gritty world of the Devil's Dust MC.
Dani has nowhere to go, no one to hold her hand through the shit storm that's now brewing thanks to her pathetic excuse of a mother. Realising she might be signing her own death certificate by doing so, she returns to the only place that ever felt like home. As expected, she isn't welcomed back with loving open arms. She is outcasted, questioned and pained by the damage that has been caused between not only her and Shadow, but also herself and her father. Her heart has been shattered into tiny shards that continue to cut away at the remaining pieces of her dark soul. But she won't give up, she has the devil's dust blood flowing through her veins, she will prove her loyalty to the club one way or another.
Shadow feels betrayed by the one person he finally let into his cold, lifeless heart. He tries to find solace in drugs and women, but only one green eyed beauty can calm the darkness that tries to rise from within him. The past has defined the man he's become, will he let it represent his future as well? Can Shadow and Dani find a way to forgive each other and find peace in the corrupted depths of their world?
My emotions were so scattered during this story, one minute I wanted to yell and shake the craziness out of Shadow and the next I found myself melting at his mere words. Shadow is the very definition of an alpha male, and damn if that man doesn't make hot. Although he can be crude and abrupt, in this book we get a few sneaky sweet moments from Shadow. This was a fantastic surprise! I loved every moment of digging deeper into Shadow's mind, the internal battles he dealt with felt so painfully real.
Dani will always be a favourite of mine, she is ridiculously strong willed, determined, so beautiful and totally freaking KICK.ASS. Then again, I've been girl crushing on her since book one so it's no surprise that I still completely adore her. She's different, a little fucked up in some ways, and I think those qualities are why I love her even more after reading this instalment of the series. In The Scars That Define Us Dani grows into the person she has always been but kept hidden, we see her personality shine and the way Miss Forgy has portrayed this young woman is brilliant.

A laugh escapes my mouth, a vicious laugh so hard my belly cramps. My laughter begins to falter as I realize proving myself to the girls tonight unleashed something far darker than I could’ve ever imagined. It is dangerous, manic, and it craves the throes of violence. It’s exactly what my mother tried to keep me from discovering my whole life. - Dani
The emotional depth of these compelling characters kept this story so alive and had me totally engrossed, I connected with them so easily because of the amazing way the author had told their stories. I felt everything they felt, I understood why they did what they did and my gosh my heart broke many times, and not just for Shadow and Dani. The secondary characters play rather large roles in this series and they truly bring it all together for one hell of a ride through crazy town. For those of you who have read What Doesn't Destroy Us, we all totally adore Bobby right? I fell SO IN LOVE with Bobby in The Scars That Define Us, he melted my heart into a puddle and I know he will melt yours too.
There is certainly no lack of humorous moments and drama in this book, it is everywhere and happening all the time. Never once was it over the top though, it all contains little pieces of the puzzle that near the end will have you thinking BAM! Did that really just happen? If you were left craving more from Dani, Shadow and the Devil's then I suggest you get your hands on this baby as soon as possible, you will not be disappointed! I am now anxiously awaiting book three, it is sure to be nothing short of amazing. Thanks you so much M.N Forgy for allowing me the pleasure of beta reading The Scars That Define Us, I loved every moment of the story.
Another hook, line and sinker for M.N Forgy. Incredible book!!
*Book two picks right up right from where book one finished. This is not a standalone and book one should most definitely be read first.
