Synopsis

My life is split into two realities. Before Code. And after him.

The first time I saw him, he walked into my father’s bank with the strut of a man who knows exactly what he wants. I saw in him a fearlessness that I desperately wanted, needed, craved as much as my next breath.

Because I was watching him, I knew immediately when he pulled out a gun, aimed it at the ceiling, and fired three shots.

And that is the way I mark my life—before that moment and after it. Before, when I tried to be agreeable, tried to be admired, tried to be pretty, tried to make sure everyone liked me. Tried to shake myself of shame. And after, when all of that fell away. When I just didn’t care anymore.

Before Code. And after him.
I didn’t know then what he would be to me. I didn’t know how he would transform the fabric of my existence. I didn’t know he would move me, reshape me, mold me into someone else, someone I wanted to be.

Afterwards, he would become my lover, my savior, my hope, and my strength.
But, before that, he was my hostage-taker.

My Review
WOW! Now this book was quite a nice surprise. Holy freaking hotness people!! If you love a somewhat twisted romance between star-crossed lovers with a side of slight fuckedupness then this book is for you. This story was not short of drama and it held my attention from the very beginning. It's fast paced, scorchin' hot and I read it all in one sitting. I didn't want to put Hostage down, I was so intrigued as to where the story was headed. Although some parts were fairly predictable the story was  refreshing to read and something different from what's popular at the moment.

For my whole life, I feel like I've been living in the billows. And, right now, they're darker and more threatening than ever. All I've ever wanted was that pathway of light, but it's always felt hopelessly out of reach. - Wren

So our heroine is Wren, she is a  nineteen year old college student with a pretty horrible past. She suffers constantly from terrible parts of her life that she longs to forget. She is going through the motions of life but is not truly happy with any of it, she has no idea who she is. That is until, the day her life changes, the day she meets Code. To be honest, at first I wasn't quite sure how I felt about Wren, there were so many moments in the story I wanted to yell at her, hug her, agree with her, tell her she's crazy. I found it sometimes difficult to connect with her because I couldn't understand her actions or what the hell she was thinking. However, I did truly like her and enjoy watching her grow a back bone and stand up to Code. She was often quite funny and gave me a good giggle. Wren is someone I think readers will either love or hate, she's that kind of character.

My mind is a whirl of terror, outrage, fury, and shock, and my body is completely out of my control. This guy has control of it. Completely. He says he's not going to kill me, but I have no reason to trust him. He's the criminal. He's the bully. He's the bastard. He's the one who is taking me hostage. - Wren

Moving onto Code, a young guy with shitty luck who is just trying to find his place in the world. He may have come from money, but you'd never be able to tell. This bad boy is hot as hell and will melt your panties! Code surprised me many times with his actions and words. He is crass and a little bit cocky, but damn could that guy be sweet when he wanted to be.

Leaning down, I kiss her. Slowly. Tenderly. And all I can think is that i don't ever want to let this go. Nothing's gonna make me do that. Not one fucking thing. - Code

Overall, Hostage was well written and thought out, I found parts of the story repetitive and felt the second half of the book went way too fast for my liking, but it didn't affect my rating too much. I would of loved more depth and knowledge from the main characters, I feel like their connection could have been better understood by readers if we just got that little bit more of their thoughts and emotions, however, I still thoroughly enjoyed reading this book! It was different, captivating and I will definitely be reading more from this author.
