Synopsis

Manwhore. Adrenaline junkie. Lead singer of ContraBand. What you see is what you get. I make no apologies for my actions, and by now no one expects any from me. I live my life the way I want and as long as it pushes the demons back, then I'm solid. I've never needed a chick for more than a good lay. Why would I need just one when I can have a different one every night?

Until she walks into my world.

Aribel
Mouthy. Perfectionist. Princeton student. Chemistry major. Yes, that pretty much describes me. Oh, and virgin. But I'm only nineteen, and have more important things to concern myself with. What really matters is finishing my degree and getting a good job. I’ve worked hard for what I want, and do what’s expected of me. I don’t need anyone to get in my way.

Until he opens up my world.

But if I give you my world, whatever you do…don’t TAKE ME for granted.

My Review

Right away this book started out kind of funny with Grant and his crazy man-whore issues and Aribel and her disregard for anything unless it involved studying.

Aribel is an uptight rich girl who’s only care in the world is studying and maintaining her good grades. She has a boyfriend but she’s never really had her heart in the relationship, it was always more for expediency rather than for any type of romantic feelings.

Grant is a lead singer in a band and has his pick of any groupie he wants…and boy does he take advantage of that. I found it a bit disgusting at his whorish ways but I guess I should have expected it with an opening line of:

“I don’t remember the number of women I’d fucked.”

Yeah, in fact man-whore is probably too nice of a term for Grant but he has no plans of ever changing. He lives and breathes the rock star lifestyle and the music, women and booze are the only things that can help quiet the nightmare that lives inside his head.

That is until one night in the bar after one of his sets he sees an uptight blonde haired girl who his bandmate Vin had just tried hitting on but she turned him down flat. After hearing that, Grant needs to check this girl out.

“She appeared really uptight and vigilant. She looked like a cork and I wanted to be the corkscrew—uncap that pressure and help her explode.”

I loved how Grant and Aribel first met but I also had MAJOR issues with the events that led to that point. I don’t really like to give spoilers in a review but I feel like I have to say this.

Vin, Grant’s bandmate, wasn’t getting anywhere with Aribel so he drugs her. He slips something in her beer so he would have a chance at taking her home. Grant knows this and yells at Vin for it but when he goes over to Aribel, he never tries to take her drink away. He sees it is still full but he was still going to let her drink from it. Aribel, the smarty pants she is, knows what Vin has done so she doesn’t drink her beer…she just holds onto it. Two things irk me about this. One being that Grant never tried to take the drink away from her. The second being that no one ever said anything more about it. Aribel never confronts Vin, Grant never brings it up again. It all gets swept under the rug like it is no big deal. I just had a really hard time with that entire scenario.

Anyway, I loved the banter back and forth between Grant and Aribel. She gives as good as she gets. Sex is all Grant ever has on the brain and when he makes all of his sexual innuendos, she calls him out on it. It’s pretty funny.

Grant and Aribel could not be more opposite from each other but that doesn’t stop Grant. Never has he ever chased a girl…he’s never had to. They flock to him like moth’s to a flame. But not Aribel, nope, that girl refuses to give Grant the time of day. But Grant refuses to give up on her and finds himself offering her something he has never offered any woman ever: A Date!

“No charade, babe. I just wanted to see you and take you out.”

“Uh huh. Where exactly are you taking me?”

I smirked at her. “Dinner.” My bed.

“Why do I have a feeling that we’re not talking about eating the same thing?”

I chuckle to myself. She had me there.

Aribel starts to see a different side of Grant, one that he doesn’t normally show to people and Grant takes Aribel down a notch or two and shows her life another side to life, one that she’s never experienced. She finds herself actually enjoying herself and the time she spends with him.

So after spending time together, Grant has certain expectations. He’s used to skipping all the dinner/date stuff and getting to the dirty part. But then the unthinkable happens…and Aribel admits that she is…that she is…wait for it…A Virgin!

Grant is shocked; shocked so much that he is stunned into silence. He’s a man-whore of the worst kind…how in the hell can he be in any kind of a relationship with *gulp* a virgin!

Virgin: That was a four-letter word in my vocabulary: FUCK!

I found the first part of this story ok and like I said, pretty funny. The second half was more drawn out to me. A lot of it was centered around misunderstandings and I felt like I was reading in circles.

By the last chapter of the book things took a bit of a turn and ending in kind of a cliffhanger. I’m so curious about the rest of the story. I think the next book is going to have a different feel to it based on how this one ended.

If you want to read about a cocky self-proclaimed man-whore who has no respect for women and an uptight princess who would rather think about her next calculus assignment than have a little fun…this book is perfect for you.
