Blurb

Damian Tate. One look into his sad green eyes and I was hooked. I wanted to be the one to make him laugh, to make him smile. I hadn't expected him to be the one to make me blush, to make me hot...to make me fall in love. He was my first kiss, my first love, my first everything. I wanted forever with him, but life got in the way.

He enlisted, I went to college, and for years we were never in the same place long enough to pick up where we left off.

Thirteen years after he left, tragedy brings him home. The stoic boy I fell in love with grew into a quiet, dangerous and wildly sexy man. He still tugs on all the right strings for me, but he seems determined to keep me at arm's-length.

However, when trouble comes knocking at my door, he is the one to put himself between that trouble and me.

Spending time with him might drive me insane, or it might be our second chance at first love.

REVIEW

First time LA Book for me!!

Damien has a rubbish home life.  Left by his Dad and abused by his mom his life is spent trying to hide money he earns from his mom so she doesn't steal it to buy drink.  One day he forgets to take money to school for lunch.  Someone he knows, Cam, offers to get his lunch.  looking at Cam's wallet he spots a picture of a girl, Thea.  Cam's sister.  Cam takes Damien home for dinner and he finally meets the girl from the picture.  He's enamored of her but he knows he's not good enough for her.

Thea is also instantly struck by Damien.  She wants him from the moment they meet.  When he silently saves her against some mean girls she's a goner for him.  Her whole family take him in and he gets his first glimpse at a real family.

Their lives go in different paths but they always seem to cross over the years as Damien see's all her family as his too.  Tragedy finally brings them to the same place at the same time but danger is lurking to ruin it all.

I started the book loving the directions it took.  Then as it went on further i have to be honest it lost me for a while.  Then it picked up again and then slowed and then picked up once again.  I got a little annoyed at the timing thing and him pushing her away.  Being honest i think i would have enjoyed this book more if it had been condensed down.  If a few of the "he's back" then "gone again" scenes were taken out it would have held me all the way through.

I loved their relationship.  He was quiet and reserved but what he did say always had meaning and i loved that.  Thea spoke enough for both of them and this made me chuckle a fair few times.  Their relationship was easy and came across as it was, a long term love affair although they weren't always together.  They knew each other from children and knew each others soul's and this showed and i loved it.

The sexy times were hot and thoroughly enjoyed! He was quite demanding and who wouldn't quiver over him!

The secondary characters were also amazing.  Cam, Thea's brother and Anton, Damien's friend were a great addition as were Thea's best friends Kimber and Ryder. Also all the family and extended family.

The feel of this book was very family orientated and not just blood family but chosen family which gave it an added boost.  Although of course there are always black sheep.

I did enjoy this book i just wished it hadn't been as long as it was.  I will absolutely be waiting for Anton's story.  Recommended.

Excerpt

Before I could scan the crowd for Damian, a hand wrapped around mine...one with cuts and blood on the knuckles. It was Damian and he looked pissed.

“What the fuck are you doing here?”

My heart hurt seeing his face—a cut near his left eye, blood smeared down his cheek and a blooming bruise on his jaw. “I heard you and Cam talking. I was curious.”

He had been walking me toward the exit but those words stopped him. His feet sort of rooted themselves to the concrete floor as his head turned in my direction. “So you walked here alone?”

“It wasn’t far.”

That wasn’t the right answer apparently because he hissed between his teeth. It wasn’t an actual word, just a release of frustration.

He started toward the exit again. “What are you fighting when you are out there?”

We had just reached the stairs when he pulled me behind them and pressed me up against the wall. “Come again?”

“When you fight, what are you fighting?”

“Not who am I fighting?”

“No, your opponent isn’t what you’re fighting.”

He leaned in and lowered his head to look me right in the eyes. “How do you know that?”

I gently wiped the blood from his face. “I know you.”

He had the strangest reaction to that. He closed his eyes, like he was in pain, and lowered his forehead to my shoulder. “This can’t happen.”

Those words caused a chill to move right down my spine. He was wrong. It totally could and should happen. “Why not?”

He lifted his head and for the first time I saw so much more in those eyes. “Cam is a good friend and your parents are like my own.”

“And?”

His lips brushed along my jaw and I had to lock my knees to keep from sliding down the wall. “And if I did to you all the things I wanted, I couldn’t sit at their table without them knowing that I claimed every part of you.”
