My Review
Story... Grey has just won a fight that is going to send him to Vegas to start fighting as a Pro, his life is just about to start and he has a whole team and a sister going along with him for the ride. But that night something goes horribly wrong and instead of going to Vegas and becoming the next big UFC Fighter he is sent to jail for 5 years.
5 years later and Grey is a free man. His sister Trinity is waiting for him as he gets out and wants him to stay with her, she also has a surprise for Grey... A fiance who is also a fighter. Grey isn't happy that she has a fiance at all but especially not happy the fiance is a fighter.
Grey needs to get his life back on track, he starts by seeing his old coach and manager but he starts to realise that everything has changed and when he went to jail it affected everyone not just Grey.
Grey gets a new job behind a bar and meets Christina. Grey and Christina hit it off and become very close friends. Grey starts fighting again with a new coach and he's making new friends, life seems to be going really well for Grey. But one night at the bar, one of Grey's oldest friends shows up and Grey isn't happy about it. Grey blames Meyer for part of the reason he went to jail and when Grey needed him most Meyer left him with only a letter saying how sorry he is. Grey isn't interested in hearing his excuses.
Grey starts winning his fights and soon enough he is off to Vegas to go Pro. Grey wins his fight and moves to Vegas to keep fighting. He gets a sponsorship, but Grey soon finds out that his sponsorship comes at a price and the consequences could be that he loses something that he loves very much.
Is this a love/romance story... I'm going to say NO! There is a relationship but it starts about 90%. They meet right at the beginning, Mollie is part of the reason for Grey making a mistake. But they barely talk in the book at all. I would say they got 3 or 4 pages all together before they get together at 90% most of the book is about Grey's fighting and dealing with his guilt. I did not connect with Mollie at all, when she was in the book all she did was talk cryptic, every time!!!
What I liked... Grey was level headed, strong character who always put family first. Even after jail time Grey was a soft sensitive person who put other's first. I liked reading about the fights and his past. Grey kept me interested in this story I wanted him to succeed, he deserved to.
Why only 3 stars... Does this review kind of confuse you? Not much info there or nothing that really follows a pattern of where the story was going? Yeah well that's how I feel about the book. Nothing added up the whole way through. There is a cliffhanger and that made some of the book make sense but honestly I was very close to dnf many times because the story was only confusing me. I mean if there were little crumbs of what was happening on the outside it would have made so much difference to the story but otherwise all the information I was given has nothing to do with what was really going on in the background and that's why the cliffy is so surprising because it comes out of nowhere. I couldn't even be shocked at the cliffhanger because who the cliffhanger involves was barely in the book so I got no connection to the character at all. But don't get me wrong it's a GOOD cliffy, very good and definitely teases you of what's to come in book 2.
Let Go never bored me it kept me interested but I spent most of the book confused and thinking it was going nowhere, had there been some hints as to what was going on in the background I may have understood characters better and possibly connected with them and it would have had me on the edge to find out what was going on, and wondering what would happen next.
If you like books about fighters and characters who have to overcome hard times and grow then this story is for you. This is book 1 of a series so hopefully after reading the next books (when they are released) the story will start to come together for me.
