Synopsis
Love can play tricks on your heart… After serving several years in the United States Marine Corps, Sergeant Tucker Patton decides to hang up his uniform and go to work at a private investigative firm owned by his buddy. His boxes are packed and he’s got one foot out the door when a phone call changes everything.
Instead of going to North Carolina, he heads to New York City to literally step into the life of his twin brother, who died under suspicious circumstances. But pretending to be someone else isn’t easy.
Especially when the person you’re supposed to be is wanted dead.
Not only that, but he’s going from being blissfully single to living with his brother’s woman. An uptight, no-nonsense lawyer.
Charlotte Rose Carter doesn’t have time for fun and games. She graduated with honors and made all the right moves fresh out of college to jumpstart her career as a successful young lawyer. She even snagged the most eligible bachelor in New York City’s corporate world.
So what if her and Max’s relationship isn’t burning up the sheets? So what if their life doesn't read like a chapter from a sizzling romance novel? This is the real world, and in the real world that stuff is just fantasy.
Until it isn’t.
Suddenly, just the slightest touch or a single glance from Max has her heart doing somersaults. Suddenly, the lackluster relationship begins to spark, and Charlotte finds herself tied in a knot of desire.
But she has no idea about the tricks being played right under her perky little nose.

My Review
Tucker Patton is leaving the Marine Corps after spending several years in and being shipped off to war two times. He has plans to go to South Carolina and work as a PI with a Marine core buddy and his wife.
He has never settled down and always just goes from one night stand to the next. He's not your romantic and say pretty things kind of guy. He's irresponsible, a charmer with the ladies. He has been distant from his parents and identical twin brother for several years now.
When Tucker is about to take off to his new life. A black car drives up with 4 FBI agents getting out needing to speak to him asap.
Tucker was not prepared at all for what would happen next.
One of the agents informed him that his brother is dead and that he was murdered.
Part of me was gone.
Ripped away.
Empty.
As Tucker was trying to process what the agent just told him about his twin brother. They explained to him that Maxwell was working with them in a corporate espionage and he was there inside man.
Tucker was surprised to know that his brother would be part of something like this. His brother was polar opposite of him. He was a straight and narrow path kind of guy. Never strayed from his goals and always was hard working. Tucker knew it had to be serious for Maxwell to agree to it.
Tucker started to sense that they were there for another reason.
"We need you to step in where Maxwell left off. To assume the identity of your brother."
It didn't take long for Tucker to answer. He and Maxwell were identical twins and he felt the sense of revenge come over him. He wanted the men to pay for what they did to his brother.
"I'll do it"
Tucker is on his way to NYC and being briefed by the FBI about Maxwell's life so he will know a little bit more about him and to play his role. He is suppose to find a flash drive that Maxwell hid that will expose the corporate espionage. Tucker was prepared to get the job done and get justice for his brother.
As they drop Tucker off at his brothers apartment they drop a bomb on him.
That Maxwell has a girlfriend who lives him.
Charlotte Rose Carter is a successful hard working lawyer. She is very pretty and always gets stereotype for being a blonde. She just made partner at her firm and is proving her spot with them. She has a handsome boyfriend who is successful as well and is her best friend. She is quiet content with their mediocre life. Little did she know that her quiet little world was blowing up in front of her face and things were about to change.
I literally laughed out loud when these two met. It was great! Tucker sneaks into the apartment thinking his "girlfriend" isn't there. Before Tucker knew it he was being tackled to the floor by a woman!
Her legs were bare.
Holy mother of god,she was wearing nothing but a towel.
She was wet. She was mostly naked. She was sitting across my lap.
Tucker couldn't hide his attraction to Charlotte but he promised himself he would not sleep with his brothers girlfriend. He was there to find the flash drive, find the guys who were responsible for killing his brother and then go on with his life in South Carolina.
Charlotte felt a new spark for her boyfriend and was wondering why is she having all these new feelings for him now. She started seeing new changes in him and she liked it!
Tucker and Charlotte have some run ins with being robbed and Charlotte being held at gun point.
Tucker realizes that she is in danger now and he needs to do something fast.
Things start getting complicated and Charlotte is starting to think Maxwell is hiding something from her. Tucker is finding it harder and harder to keep his hands off of Charlotte.
As things start to heat up between them, Tucker needs to tell Charlotte what's going on.
Once things are revealed Charlotte break downs. She couldn't believe her being a lawyer that she couldn't see through what was happening. Tucker explains to her what he has to do to bring theses guys down and she has to play the part too.
Playing the part was not hard for these two. They had an instant attraction! Charlotte was starting to feel guilty because every time Tucker touched her or was around her she was giddy, had butterflies and it felt like she was on fire and he was the only one to put it out! After so much sexual tension between them they finally give in and agree to have just one night together, no regrets and no strings attached.
"This isn't going to be like the last time. I'm not going to take my time with you. I want you too badly. I want you here. Now."
Their one night of romance was erotic. Tucker was an animal! Charlotte had never had sex in so many ways and so many places! She was so use to scheduling sex for Saturdays. LOL!:)
She realises that her relationship with Maxwell was never exciting and she never felt these feelings she had before with him. She also felt guilty to even compare him to his brother. She was starting to think it was a mistake and she didn't know what to do. So she started to distant herself.
Tucker couldn't believe that he had the best sex ever with Charlotte. He knows he is feeling more because he cuddled her afterwards and found himself do things he never does after having sex with a woman.
At that point he didn't care anymore. He wanted to protect, cherish and worship her. She got under his skin. Tucker knew he shouldn't be doing these things with his late brothers girlfriend, but he has never felt this way before about a woman.
Tucker starts to pick up that Charlotte is distancing herself from him. He assumes she doesn't feel the connection they had. He chalks it's up and continues to try and find this flash drive so he can finish this and leave and she won't have to see him again.
Charlotte and Tucker end up finding the flash drive but it wasn't going to end that easily.
As soon as they find it they are captured and held hostage by the men who killed Maxwell.
Tucker does everything he can to protect Charlotte and seeing her get hurt by these guys just adds fuel to his fire. He ends up taking a bullet for her. Seeing him being shot brought up all her feelings for him.
While all this is going down the FBI finally show up. Tucker is rushed to the hospital and Charlotte is freaking out because she can't believe he took a bullet for her and shes not sure if he's going to okay.
I'm going to stop there. So you MUST read it now to find out how it ends!:)
This book was awesome! I was hooked! It had suspense, romance, tragedy. It was a great story!
I was a little hesitant when Charlotte jumped in the sack with Tucker.
I was like you can't sleep with his brother! That's just wrong!
By the end of the book I felt a little relieved. You will understand once you read it!
I also enjoyed the epilogue!
This was my first book to read out of the he Take Off series. This is Book 6 and they can all be read as a standalone! I can't wait to read more books by Cambria Hebert!
EXCERPT
Chapter 1 - Tucker
My mouth felt like it was packed with cotton. You know that dry but slightly sticky feeling? My tongue moved and it brushed against the roof of my mouth, and the cotton came with it.
I grunted and opened my eyes, only to immediately shut them again. I wasn't ready for morning. Shit, how much did I drink last night? My body was still heavy with sleep, my limbs not wanting to cooperate.
One of my arms was flung wide and I pulled it in to rub a hand over my sleepy face, hoping it would wake me up a little more. I knew I needed to get up… I just couldn't think of the reason.
Something shifted beside me and I felt the covers lift and drop. The soft sound of footsteps reached my ears. It wasn't a something. It was a someone.
I went home with someone last night.
Opening my eyes again, I glanced to my left in time to see a woman wearing nothing but a pink thong step into the adjoining bathroom and quietly close the door. Well, now I remembered the reason I went home with her.
Her ass was luscious.
Vague memories of last night filtered through my hazy, beer-soaked memory of skin against skin and a low seductive laugh. What was her name again? Veronica? Violet? Shit, I hadn't a clue.
Tossing away the covers, I swung my legs over the side of the mattress and looked down. I was buck-ass naked. I looked around for my clothes, which were lying in a pile near the door of the bedroom.
Must have been in a hurry to get naked. I smirked. I was always in a hurry to get naked. Especially when I was with a woman with an ass like that.
I glanced back at the closed bathroom door as the toilet flushed and the tap water turned on. That was my cue to leave. I had on my boxers and jeans before the door opened.
Rushing out the door with shirt in hand seemed a little immature, so I turned. And, man, did I get an eyeful. There was no way in hell her boobs were real. They were too perfect. Large round, creamy globes sat high atop her chest. They gave way to a flat stomach with a light-reflecting stud in her bellybutton. The pink thong was still in place but left little to imagination, and her long, tan legs stretched all the way to the floor.
Her hair was dark, her features exotic, and her lips were full.
Even drunk, I had great taste.
I motioned with my chin, a little what’s up gesture, and draped my T-shirt over my shoulder.
“Leaving so soon?” she asked, padding across the carpeting toward me.
I didn't even pretend to not look at her chest. Shit, this had been a one-night stand. She could think I was a dog all she wanted. Hell, she’d be right.
‘Course, she clearly wasn't the type of girl to be offended by my wandering eyes. She walked right up to me, wound her arms around my bare waist, and pressed those perfect tits right up against my chest. Then she rubbed around like she was a cat and I was her scratching pole.
“Don’t you want to stay for breakfast?” she purred.
“Much as I’d like to, I can’t. Got somewhere to be.”
The woman whose name might or might not be Veronica pulled back and sashayed her ass across the room to a wooden nightstand by the bed. She bent at the waist, giving me the perfect view of said bottom as she scrawled something on a piece of paper.
I considered staying longer, but if I did that, she’d think this wasn't just a one-night stand. Girls were complicated like that. If our night stretched into morning, they got ideas. Ideas that maybe they would be the one to capture the guy no one else could. They would read something more into morning sex than the sex that occurred late at night when both our tongues tasted of beer.
I might sleep around, I might like a variety of ladies, but I never gave false hope where there was none. I might be a dog, but I wasn't an ass.
Sweet cheeks (I had to call her something) swayed her hips back across the room and held out a scrap of paper to me. “Call me,” she said, flipping her hair behind her shoulder.
I glanced at her chest one more time, then stuffed the piece of paper in the front pocket of my jeans.
She leaned up and pressed her lips to mine, slipping her tongue between. I kissed her back quickly and then slowly pulled away. Reaching around, I palmed her ass. “Thanks for last night,” I said and walked out of her bedroom without even looking back.
By the front door, I found my shoes and leather jacket and quickly finished dressing before stepping out into the cold morning air. I wasn't going to miss this cold. I was actually looking forward to moving on, trying something new.
A thin layer of frost covered the windshield on my truck. Instead of getting out and scraping it, I blasted the heat and let the engine idle, letting it melt on its own. While I waited, I pulled out the already crumpled piece of paper I was just given. Smoothing it out, I looked down, my eyes skimming over the number I was never going to call to look for her name.
I laughed and crumpled the paper back up and tossed in on the floor of the truck.
Rachel.
Damn. I hadn't even been close.
