“All my life, I battled with the knowledge I was twisted... fucked up to want something so deliciously dark—wrong on so many levels. But then slave fifty-eight entered my world. Hissing, fighting, with a core of iron, she showed me an existencewhere two wrongs make a right."Tess is Q’s completely. Q is Tess’s irrevocably. But now, they must learn the boundaries of their unconventional relationship, while Tess seeks vengeance on the men who sold her. Q made a blood-oath to deliver their corpses at Tess’s feet, and that’s just what he’ll do.He may be a monster, but he’s Tess’s monster.
MY REVIEW:
I
usually like to write my reviews right after I finish a book, however, I needed
some time to process this one. I thought I knew what to expect going into Quintessentially
Q after reading Tears of Tess but I was wrong.
Tears of Tess was just an appetizer for what to expect in QQ.
“I
ache to see your flesh bleed, scream for me, give me what I need, let the
rivers run, the monster inside has won…”
I am
going to try to write this review with very little spoilers. This is definitely
a book you want to experience in the fullest way possible.
Quintessentially
Q had me thinking in a way I never thought I would think...and I don’t know how
I feel about that. During one part
specifically, I kept thinking “maybe he should just dominate her, tie her up
until she talks”…then I scolded myself because that is NOT the way I think in
my everyday life. This book definitely
broke me down bit by antagonizing bit and slowly put me back together. Still 24hours after finishing this I have a
heavy heart just from the thought of the story. It’s a book that will stay with
you for many more books to come.
During
the first 30% of the book I was disappointed in Q for the way he acted towards
Tess. I thought at the end of Tears of
Tess they kind of came to an understanding about their relationship and Q kind
of came to terms with his feelings towards Tess. Well he regresses and withdraws from her
which was kind of disappointing.
“Now
is not the time to talk about hearts and flowers, esclave. Now is the time for
pain and fucking. See how the two don’t mix?”
I don’t
really know what to say without giving to much away but let me just say that
after you get a bit into the story things take a drastic turn. People’s limits are tested and lives are
forever changed. My stomach churned, my
nerves were shot and my heart broke for both Q and Tess.
Tess is
strong, a survivor, a protector, a lover and a fighter. Her limits are tested and the battle she
fights within herself is heartbreaking at best. How much is too much? How much
can someone take before they break? If
you had to choose to fight for yourself or for someone else, which would you
choose?
Q…Q
changed after certain events happened.
If you thought he was a monster in Tears of Tess…well prepare yourself
for Q unleashed! He is done fighting his
darkness, done putting limits on what he is capable of. Even with all Q’s darkness and his ability to
show no mercy and be downright evil, I fell a little in love with him. Ahh..who am I kidding. I fell a lot in love with him.
“
I long to see your creamy skin blush, welt and marked gives me a rush, I can’t
contain him, you set me free…”
Tess and
Q are two sides to one coin. Their
relationship may not be “normal” to most people…and even considered wrong by
most. But it’s their relationship so who
are we to judge. They both have needs and wants that only the other can
fulfill. People are who they are and you
can only try to be someone else because you think that is what the other person
needs for so long. To live a full life
you need to be yourself and be with someone who can accept that. This book just goes to show you what a person
will do for the person they love, even if it’s sacrificing yourself and
everything you have ever been.
“I’m
sure to break other parts of you, but I don’t want the curse of breaking your
heart”
“You
can’t break something that is freely given”
Pepper
Winters is vastly becoming one of my favorite authors. Her writing is so beautiful and descriptive.
It is also so specific that it leaves you wondering if she has an insight to
what has been written. She states in the
end of the book that this story was only intended to be a single book. I’m so glad she continued with QQ…I loved
having his POV as well as Tess’s. There
will also be a third book coming in early 2014 – Twisted Together (Monsters in
the Dark #3). I have already added it to my TBR list in Goodreads. I cannot wait for more Q and Tess.
