We've met Matt before. He has been in Inked Brotherhood, he was Zane's brother-in-law. He was also in a short story called Trouble Maker which was about his brother Kaden. It was part of a boxset but i believe it's now been released on it's own. Matt is a widow. Three years ago hee lost the love of his life and the mother of his children. He didn't cope well. His mom looked after the children while he lost himself in grief. He cut's himself off from everyone even his children. He's decided he needs to get away. Leaving his children was never an option so he takes them with him. New in town and with no support Matt finds a job but he needs a nanny to look after his young children while he works.
Enter Octavia (Tay). She desperately needs a job to help support her family and to try and fund her way through college. She hears about Matt needing a nanny and is deterimined to get the job. She's more or less brought her brother and sister up so even at the young age of 18 she is mature beyond her years. Matt takes one look and refuses to even talk to her. She leaves dejected and tried again at places around the small town that she has already tried. She ends up at the garage Matt has started working at. An ugly scene with the high school bully forces Matt's hand and he somehow ends up hiring her.
This story is angsty and a massive shot to your heart. Poor Matt. My heart broke for him. He just doesn't know how to handle his emotions. I have to be honest he was a complete douche at times. There were times that if it was me he treated like that i may have given him a hand gesture and walked the hell away! So... poor Tay!!! She put's up with a hell of a lot from him. Maybe this is where her young age helps. She's got no experience so she just goes on the gut feeling she has about him. His attitude and treatment of her would have an experienced woman running for the hills. But she hangs on in there. At first i would say for the kids. They're so sweet and obviously in need of love and affection. Then as time goes on Matt starts to show her the man he used to be before grief began to drown him. The more he shows of his old self, the harder she falls for him.
I know some people may have a problem with the age gap but i think it actually made the story. He needed someone innocent and pure to bring him out. Maybe his memories of a fresh faced Emma (his wife) were brought to the front when he spends time with Tay and this made him remember good times and not the pain of losing her.
The love scenes as always with Jo's books were HOT HOT HOT!! Damn does she know how to write those suckers!!! Phhhhewwwwwwww
This book is pure angsty, torturous, goodness wrapped up in that smoking hot cover!!
