Ten years is a long time when you’re thirty-two. We’d seen our share of ups and downs, but I could honestly say, they were mostly up. That’s the thing about happiness though. It lulls you into a false sense of security.
Neither one of us ever thought we’d ever be touched by crippling loss or immeasurable grief. But not all stories have a happy ending, and I knew, better than anyone, that sometimes, one of you won’t make it till the end. One of you has to go first. And one of you will be left behind to pick up the pieces.
That one is me.
But starting over isn’t what I thought it would be. I need escape from the memories that plague me, remind me. So I went back to where it all began. To the town where I was born. To the place whose beauty could pierce my pain. Where I experienced my first kiss, where I fell in love, where a man was my earth. And I…
I was his sky.
My Review
I love when a story isn't exactly what I expected especially when it's emotional and I'm unable to put it down. Watching the Sky Cry was as beautiful a second chance romance as the gorgeous cover predicted. It was also more than that. It was a story of young love, moving on, and facing the worst things in life and still being able to love with a whole heart.
This is the story of Riley and the two loves of her life. Marriage isn't easy and Riley and Nick would be one of the first ones to tell you that. Yet even with all the ups and downs, they loved each other fully. They had their share of heartbreak but their devotion to each other never wavered. Until there wasn't any other choice. Reeling from devastating loss, Riley needs to start over so she goes back to the one place she never expected to find herself again: the town where she grew up and had her young heart torn from her chest.
Making a new life, Riley is determined to find out where she's supposed to be. When Quinton shows back up, she realizes that second chances are not to be taken for granted. And that losing the one person you never wanted to live without doesn't mean spending the rest of your life in mourning. But Quinton and Riley have their own set of hurdles to cross. Neither is unaffected from their demise all those years ago and they've both lived full lives since then. Riley has to choose which path she's going to take and just how much she can bear.
I was hooked on this story right from the author's note at the beginning. That, added to the blurb, and my heart was already in my throat from word one. I felt for Riley down to the bottom of my heart. I ached for her. I have to admit that there were times when I was confused as to what was happening because of the way the story was written. It was like there were intentional holes in the story left to keep the reader guessing. But for me, at times, I had to guess a little too much and stopped and went back to reread sure I missed something. That was really the only reason this wasn't 5 full stars. I loved pretty much everything else about this gorgeous story with two storylines that merged into one big, beautiful masterpiece.

About the Author
Julie is a southern California native, a fan of a really good story (preferably a romance with a happily ever after), really good pie (preferably pumpkin)and copious amounts of coffee (preferably Folgers).
She has always enjoyed writing and at one time thought she might be a singer/songwriter. The 'writer' part is that one that stuck.
Julie is obsessed with Pi...the equation and the food. She's allergic to cats, cantaloupe and hates mushrooms. So if you ever want to give her a gift, those are out for sure.
She currently lives with her romance hero husband and two boys in Melbourne, Australia.
