This is War, Baby by K. Webster
Publication Date: February 29, 2016
Genres: Contemporary, Dark Romance
My life had a plan. Until he invaded it and stole it all away. My captor took me and I became a pawn. His strategy changed and he sent me away to WAR, because money is everything in this world. In my WAR, though, I found peace. I couldn’t help but find love where I least expected it, with a man who lived a battle every day of his life …all inside his head. But then my captor came back for me. Yet, this time, battle lines had been drawn and I was protected. So we thought. Even though my WAR was raging, my captor would fight to the death. The good guys always win, right? Not always. All’s fair in love and WAR, right? Not this time.
Warning: This is War, Baby is a dark romance. A really dark one. So dark you’re going to wish you had a flashlight to see yourself to the end and someone to hold your hand. Human trafficking, dubious consent, and strong sexual themes that could trigger emotional distress are found in this story. This story is NOT for everyone.
My Review
Holy Moly, K. Webster. Speechless.
This was superb. Unique. Dark but interspersed with giggles, passion and so much sweet.
This review is going to be sparse on details because it's one that needs to be allowed to play out. I was shocked over and over again as I read this dark yet delicious tale. While the warning is there for a reason, the story is not all doom and gloom. And just when I thought I knew where the story was going, jaw dropping twists showed me that I definitely didn't.
Baylee was a seventeen year old high school student with a doting boyfriend and parents when the unimaginable happens. Her captor takes her and exploits her. Just when she thinks her life is all but over, WAR comes and shows her that maybe all isn't lost. He has his own issues that seem insurmountable, and even though WAR and Baylee have a battle on their hands, together they fight for PEACE.
All I can say is to be ready for anything. Throw out all your preconceived notions. K. Webster has penned a tortured tale and yet made me fall in love when I least expected it. Also be prepared to get all sorts of hot and bothered because this story was beyond sexy (even when it should have been uncomfortable and I should probably admit that it makes me question my sanity at times). The story was perfectly paced and all necessary details were released at exactly the write time. It was one of the most engaging stories I've read this year and I'm on pins and needles for more.
