Invisible Love Letter
Callie Anderson
Release Day: October 21, 2015
Synopsis
Love is fatal; a snake that slithers into your life, poisons you with its venom, and leaves you there to die. I swore I wouldn’t be my parents.
I swore I would stay away from the limelight.
Falling in love with a musician was definitely out of the question.
Weston Carter was all kinds of wrong for a girl like me. He was musician, a womanizer, and a first class heartbreaker.
I didn't know a love like this could exist. Our love was epic, the kind people wrote stories about. We fell into it hard, unable to control our feelings.
I set myself up for a shattered heart. A broken life. A fucked up love story.
My Review
Don't mind me. I'm just sitting here in the fetal position trying to mend all my poor feels. This book took me through the wringer, then did again and again and again. But as hard as this story was to experience, it was still deeply moving and a beautiful debut.
Emilia has lived her whole life remembering that her famous musician father loved her mother so much that when she died of cancer, he couldn't live without her. After he died Emilia made a pledge to herself that she would never fall in love, especially with a musician. But life has a funny way of taking our plans and blowing them to smithereens.
Over the course of several years Emilia runs into Weston, an aspiring musician and the lead singer in one of her friends up and coming bands. She feels pull to Weston but afraid he fits the stereotype, she pulls away every time he gets close. Eventually she gives in to the pull and Weston's insistent attempts to date her. They begin a passionate and devoted love affair until Emilia's fears become a reality. When life pulls Emilia and Weston toward two different paths, life veers off course and their futures become drastically different.
This story hurt to read. With characters that made decisions I hated and choices I didn't agree with, my stomach was in knots. But as difficult as the story was, I still could mostly understand where each was coming from. Each time the path started to diverge I held my breath hoping for the best but knowing that wasn't going to happen and Ms. Anderson still made me love the story and her characters. Even when I wanted to chuck my Kindle across the room, I held out hope for all the characters involved because Ms. Anderson's writing pulled me and made me believe in them. At times the story moved rather quickly, but I felt Emilia and Weston's connection and rooted for them even when they couldn't.
Emilia and Weston's story is far from over. I know that they have a lot to overcome before the last word is said. Of course I have hope that the story ends one way, but with such a twisted road ahead, it won't be easy. But one thing I'm sure of is that it will be worth it. (Though with that ending, January can't come soon enough.)
