About Recluse:

You were my brother in the line of duty. My partner. My best friend. You were the man who had it all. Your thoroughness and precision made you a great cop. It’s what got you killed. And now I live with the darkening shadows of your memory. You weren’t here when I needed you to save me. You weren’t here when I needed help solving the most gruesome murder this town had ever seen. But most of all, you weren’t here to keep me from falling in love with your wife.

About Jaycee Ford:

Bestselling author Jaycee Ford grew up chasing street cars around the city of New Orleans. After doing a four year stint at Louisiana State University, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and fled for the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. New Orleans beckoned her home again where she put her love of the foothills into a series of romance novels. In between writing, she’s found behind her desk at a top rated law firm … or still chasing street cars.

My Review

Recluse by Jaycee Ford caught my eye as soon as I read its blurb. After losing his best friend and partner Mike in the line of duty, Wyatt vows to be there and take care of Mike’s wife and daughter as they struggle to cope with their loss, but one thing he didn’t plan on was falling in love with her.

This is a relatively short but sweet read which sees Wyatt struggle with his developing feeling for his late best friend’s wife while trying to solve a brutal murder unlike anything their small town has ever seen before.

While I did really enjoy the three dimensional characters that Jaycee has created and the way she has taken the time to develop each of their backstories to make for interesting interactions, and the storyline itself is interesting, for me personally there just felt like there was something missing.

I kept waiting for the emotions or action in the story to intensify but I felt it stayed a little too safe throughout the book and just coasted along until leaving us with no warning of the huge cliff-hanger it ended with. Saying that however it wasn’t a bad read and it does have me intrigued to find out the answers as too what happens next, so book two will be landing in my reading pile as soon as it becomes available.
