New York Times bestselling author Joanna Wylde returns to the “wild and raw”* world of the Reapers MC with the story of Gage and Tinker…

The club comes first.

I’ve lived by those words my whole life—assumed I’d die by them, too, and I never had a problem with that. My Reaper brothers took my back and I took theirs and it was enough. Then I met her. Tinker Garrett. She’s beautiful, she’s loyal, and she works so damned hard it scares me sometimes . . . She deserves a good man—one better than me. I can’t take her yet because the club still needs me. There’s another woman, another job, another fight just ahead.

Now she’ll learn I’ve been lying to her all along. None of it’s real. Not my name, not my job, not even the clothes I wear. She thinks I’m nice. She pretends we’re just friends, that I’ve still got a soul . . . Mine’s been dead for years. Now I’m on fire for this woman, and a man can only burn for so long before he destroys everything around him.

I’m coming for you, Tinker.

Soon.

My Review

I always get so excited when a new Reaper's book comes out. Joanna Wylde was my first foray into the MC world and I've been forever obsessed since. I love that her books always have a ring of truth to the fiction so that I feel like these people could actually exist. Plus even though she writes each book as a standalone, she seamlessly integrates each story into the next so that the world building is woven throughout each book creating a more comprehensive storyline. And while Reaper's Fire may not have been a perfect example of this, the story nonetheless captured me from the very beginning as I lost myself in the Reaper's MC.

Reaper's Fire was Tinker and Gage's story. We got a glimpse of them in previous works, but here we delved straight into their story. Tinker left her husband after years of coming second to his job and moved back in with her father after her mother passed away and his health started to deteriorate. Once back home she's not only running her dessert business but trying to manage her parent's store and properties. And she's running out of steam. Gage is on a mission for his MC. With orders from his President, he is to infiltrate another MC group who was once a friendly club but has recently started to worry the Reaper's. To do so, Gage has to put his colors aside and pretend to be someone completely different so that he can use the acting MC's sister as a way in. All is well until he meets Tinker.

Tinker needs a handyman and Gage needs a place to sleep. As he gets to know her, though, he realizes that loyalty to his club could ruin his chances with Tinker. But the club always comes first and so he has to put aside his wants for want his club needs. But as tension rises and he realizes that the woman he's supposed to be dating is horrible, things get trickier than he ever imagined.

This addition to the Reaper's MC had a bit of a different feel to it. Since Gage spent most of his time outside Coeur d'Alene, I really missed the interactions with the other club members and their Old Lady's. Of course we got to see a lot of Tinker and her life which was entertaining for sure but I did feel a bit bereft when we only got tiny glimpses of Pic, Horse, Painter and all the others. Ms. Wylde still was able to place this story in the timeline of the previous ones so getting a new viewpoint of those kept me satisfied. And while I was rooting for Gage to kick his "girlfriend" to the curb, I understood why it had to happen that way and loved that we got to see more of the blooming sexual tension between Tinker and Gage than much with the crazy one.

Up until like 60 I was speed reading just like I normally do with a Reaper's book. The tension was palpable, MC life was starting to unravel and all the juicy details were finally coming to light. At this point I was hoping to get more of Tinker and Gage together than we actually got. There were a lot of conflicts that kept popping up that detracted a bit from the romance. Then the ending seemed a bit rushed before the epilogue. There was one loose end that seemed to be left dangling a bit and I so wished more of the story would have been told that led to the epilogue but I am really glad we at least got what we did. Because THAT is what makes these books so good.

In the end, this may not have been my favorite of the Reaper's story, but it was still so good. Joanna creates a world that I wish I could be a part of and I'm already anxiously waiting to see which Reaper we get next.
