Synopsis

Dallas
He was the beginning of my heart . . . and the end of it.
I was only fifteen years old when he claimed it and twenty when he took it with him.
They say what is meant to be will find a way. But when you have changed to the point of no return, how can anything ever be the same?
Seven years later, Dean Martin waltzed back into my life in hopes of resuming what I had fought so hard to forget, but he was in for a wake-up call.
I was no longer the naïve woman he had left . . . and I was no longer his.
I met the love of my life and my soul mate when I was fifteen. I knew that; he knew that. He wanted that girl back. I wanted to forget she ever existed.

Dean
What I thought was my pre-destined path was very much an illusion. Living seven years with regret, I realized too late that I was broken, and that I only had myself to blame.
I thought love could wait . . . but it didn’t.
We’d had it all those years ago, and then I foolishly left it behind.
She was all that mattered. She was all there ever was.
There was no life without Dallas, no reason . . . except her.
No matter how hard she tried to convince me, I knew I had to once again make her mine, to make her remember . . . the fall.

Explicit sex, strong language.

My Review

Kate Stewart has done it again. The Fall was such a beautifully emotional story. I started reading slower once I neared the end because I didn't want it to end. I read this several days ago and I have yet to stop thinking about it even though I've read another book since then. Dallas and Dean's story was just that powerful. This heartbreakingly real tale of true love and growing pains is exactly why I read.

Dallas and Dean met when they were in high school. With Dean being a few years older than Dallas, in his mind they couldn't be anything other than friends until Dallas got older. Dallas, just like every other girl in school, wanted Dean but realized that she had been friend zoned. So they became inseparable. Over time they became best of friends until Dean had to leave for college. As time does, it moves on. Eventually Dallas joined Dean at university where they finally became more. But Dean has goals and those goals don't include staying home. He wants to go to Columbia and become a doctor and while Dallas also wants to be a doctor, she doesn't want to leave home. So for one glorious year, they love each other with all they have. But just like in high school, life gets in the way.

When Dean leaves for Columbia, he leaves Dallas behind. For the next 7 years Dallas tries to move beyond her past until she's finally feeling settled. She's a doctor set on opening her own practice with her sister, she's dating a guy that she truly enjoys spending time with, and she loves her job. But when everything seems to be falling into place, Dean comes back to town. Her once orderly life is thrown into a tailspin.

As Dean and Dallas' story unfolds, long held anger, grief, and the reality of bone crushing lost love come crashing to the surface. Neither has fully let go and the past is anything but buried. When the reality of the past starts to meld with the reality of the present, their future is thrown into question. Told with flashbacks to the past they spent together, Dean and Dallas' story is revealed piece by heartbreaking piece.

My heart was in my throat through most of this story. It seemed so obvious to me, an outsider, that they were meant to be together. But Ms.Stewart did a phenomenal job of writing a story that shows the reality of growing up and the consequences that follow every choice a person makes. I have to be honest and say that many times I was frustrated with some of the choices each made. But then I'd get the other viewpoint and even though I didn't like the outcome, their choices were theirs to make and in the end I couldn't fault them because they really did make sense. It quickly became clear that no one was really to blame. Time, age, and life in general instead were to blame leaving heartbreak inevitable, just like real life since life is never linear. It twists and turns with age and maturity and choices.

Dallas and Dean's story took hold of my heart and has yet to let go. They were flawed, but they were real. They loved fully and completely even amidst the pitfalls of making life choices that each felt they had to make. The Fall is the perfect example of how two people can try to do the right thing and yet the outcome doesn't happen as intended. I literally clutched my chest throughout their story as the events that lead to their separation unfolded. I also blushed like a virgin bride when Dean and Dallas' sexy times began. I cried with them when their hearts broke. And I gasped in shock when life changing events took place. With heart and passion, Dallas and Dean's story took me from the depths of despair to the peak of unbridled joy.

This story was perfect in its imperfections. Dean and Dallas suffered but finding that both were to blame just as really neither was to blame because life is life, their love story of finding true love was just everything. Now I am impatiently waiting for Rose's story. She was such a big part in Dean and Dallas HEA, I can't wait to see her finally find hers too. I may have fallen in love with Kate Stewart when she wrote Loving the White Liar, but The Fall has cemented her as one of my absolute favorites.

Synopsis

He was my salvation. Interviewing the notorious owner of ‘Ignition’ should have been simple. When asked to go home with him, I should’ve said ‘no.’ But Noah Hamilton’s tattooed, hard body and rugged features were impossible to resist. I wanted him to touch me. And I longed to be loved again. I craved the escape and was desperate to know him. Much like his lifestyle, our heated affair took off at warp speed, proving to be stronger than either of us anticipated. Trapped between my past and future, there was only one decision to make. So I ran… She was my downfall. From the moment Lizzie Ryder stepped into my shop, I wanted her. Had to have her. A reserved journalist with a body of sin and mesmerising eyes was all it took for me to fall. Hard. The night she let me touch her, taste her, I knew I was done for. I never deserved her, but needed to make her mine. She found the heart I never knew I had, brought it to life, and then crushed it to dust. And just like her storm-filled eyes, I drowned in the flood of her desertion. Reaching my breaking point, I struggled to forget the only woman I ever foolishly fell for and dove headfirst into my dark past, barely surviving her. And now she’s back. What happens when our weaknesses become our strengths? Do we reveal and fight…or keep our secrets and run? And can we withstand the devastation left after the Beautiful Storm?

Excerpt

“Noah, are you awake?” Lizzie whispers, her voice breathy. Her daft question makes me smile. I just moved. “Yeah.” I tighten my arms around her and lean in to kiss her temple. “I love being here with you. Being cocooned in your arms. Held like you fear I might vanish at any second.” “You planning on disappearing on me?” I ask. My voice’s gruff and my heart squeezes at the thought. But I do hold her like that. “Never,” she answers confidently. And I feel her smile against my chest. I let out a relieved breath I didn’t even realise I was holding as she continues. “I thought I understood what love was, but the dream became battered and broken. I always believed love was a safe place, like here.” She traces the tattoos on my chest. “But did you know love could be twisted and painful? I know it’s really stupid, but I never realised it could hurt, not without betrayal.” I can’t figure out where she’s going with this so I let her continue, but my chest gets tighter with each word. “I’m worried because I love us. This.” She peers up at me through her lashes. “But I’m frightened by what I feel for you. It’s stronger than anything I’ve ever felt before, and it could crush me if I let it.” She moves her hand down to rub circles on the forearm wrapped around her waist, her gaze follows it. Without exact words she just told me she loves me and I want desperately to tell her something she wants to hear, but I can’t. “I don’t know what to say, angel. I could beg you to let me in, to trust me, and I could promise that I’ll never be that man, that I’ll never hurt you. But—” I shift so I can look into her eyes. “It’s probably likely. I’ve never done anything like this. Never wanted to.” I keep to myself the reasons why and continue. “You distorted my world, made me view things a little differently. You made we want things I’ve never thought about before. Made me think about a future. But I can’t promise you I won’t mess up, and I can’t promise you a happy ending.” The warning needs to be out there, no matter what feelings swirl around in me. I’m not relationship material and if we continue down the path we’ve taken she may get hurt, fuck, she will get hurt.

My Review

Beautiful Storm is the debut novel for Megan Isaacs and it was wonderfully done. Emotional, angsty, steamy, and oh so sexy. I couldn't put it down once I started. Lizzie and Noah's story was one fraught with bad timing, trauma but enduring love and passion. It was a story that encapsulated the true meaning of forgiveness and true love.

Lizzie once thought she was living the perfect life, until that life started falling in on her. In a relationship that she shouldn't be in, she's stuck. But one interview changes all that. Noah is the owner of Ignition. An interview that should have been routine, turns into anything but. When Noah and Lizzie first lay eyes on each other, time seems to stand still. Embarking on a year long relationship hidden from view, it should have been easy since Noah was a no strings attached kind of guy and Lizzie was battling her own issues in the relationship department. Everything is easy and good until real life comes calling. When it does, Lizzie does what she thinks best and runs leaving Noah broken and diving headfirst back into his troubled past he hoped to escape.

Years later fate brings them back together and their passion still burns brightly even as forgiveness seems impossible. Noah was betrayed in the cruelest way and Lizzie still has a past that needs unraveling. But love and devotion are not easily forgotten and these two need to decide if they can forgive and forget or if leaving good enough alone is really what they want.

From the first pages, Lizzie and Noah were combustable together. I could feel their desire and adoration. My heart ached for these two though. Some decisions are hard to overcome and as much as I wanted them to find peace and happiness together, I also understood the magnitude of what was standing between them. But with help from a cast of side characters that I feel just as deeply for as I did Lizzie and Noah, I found a new author to give me exactly the deep and slightly dark romances I adore.

Megan Isaacs lives happily in the UK with her husband and son. If you asked her about herself she would say she's completely crackers. Always the introvert with an extrovert exterior. A complete mash up of improbabilities. She loves her family, but that goes without saying. She loves reading and tea. Lots and lots of tea. She used to be pretty good shot with a shotgun, but hasn't shot since she was five months pregnant when she beat her husband for the one and only time. Hanging up her barrels seemed like a good idea after that.

Read a sneak peek of TATTOOED SCARS:

“You know,” he began softly, “there is plenty of room in my closet for you to keep some of your clothes here.” His comment caught me off guard, and my heart constricted with one hard squeeze before it sped up with an uneven rhythm. “Uh,” I stammered before closing my mouth, unsure of how to respond. He inquisitively stared at me as I parted my lips to try again. “I don’t know.” I blinked in shock. “I think it’s too soon to be thinking about that.” Damien arched a brow, and I just knew he was going to hit me with a comeback. But he didn’t. Instead, he teasingly narrowed his eyes at me as he said, “Nothing is too soon with you.” He took deliberate steps toward me, and that domineering persona that I loved about him was evident in every single one of his purposeful strides toward me. “In fact, we are going to your place tonight after work to pack some things for you to bring here.” “What?” I screeched, gaping at him. “I’m not moving in with you!” Without saying a word, he lifted his phone in his hand, which I hadn’t noticed he was still holding, and he tapped on the screen. A devious smirk appeared on his face before he spoke into the line, “Zoey, something came up that I must deal with. I’ll see you at ten.” Just when I thought my mouth couldn’t possibly hang open any more, it did. “You have lost your mind.” He continued to stalk toward me. I glared at him as I backed up to the headboard behind me, increasing the distance between us. I wouldn’t be able to keep my head straight if Damien put his hands on me. My body would willingly cave to his over-the-top demands. Damien was my weakness and my strength, rolled into one massive wave of passion. He knelt on the bed and slowly came closer. All the while, the look in his eyes darkened with unmistakable desire. He was going to devour me. “What are you doing?” I lifted my right foot and pressed it to his stomach to halt his advance. “Stop right there.” My voice, laced with warning, trailed off as my attention caught on his erection. It was heavy and hard. I drank in each defined muscle of his abs as they flexed with each of his movements. Strength and dominance rippled out of him. Damien gently grasped ahold of my ankle. “I’m giving you a reminder.” “A reminder?” I wiggled my leg in an attempt to shake it free. “Of what?” I asked, damn well knowing the answer. This was one of those times when he wanted control, and I refused to give him the satisfaction of surrendering so easily. Who am I kidding? It was useless. I was a goner.
