You've met Jack from "A Reason To Breathe" now meet his cousin and lumberjack Max, Max Hunter or as Mia likes to call him Thor, God of Thunder

You know what they say about lust at first sight.....It's a seven deadly sin but when you sin . . . you sin hard.

Max Hunter has a problem, well, two, actually. One he fished out of the river and the other...A killer.

Mia Roberts has a problem that stands six foot five and swings an axe like a God. On assignment to study the grizzlies of the Alaskan frontier, she stumbles across a body and then stumbles into the arms of a lumberjack she can't resist.

Throw in Max's mother, a handful of crazy friends and family and you have a recipe for adventure.

Rated B for Bossy, F for funny, T for Thor, God of Thunder, R for language, explicit sexual content and EDIBLE UNDIES. For mature audiences only. 18 and above.

My Review

Why Helllllllooo Max!

I fell in love with Jack Gunnison back in A Reason to Breathe so when I found out CP was doing a second book on his cousin, Max- A man who has Gunnison blood running through his veins I could not wait for his story. The Gunnison men are all hot, all Alpha, all bossy, and all completely to die for.

"It's more like watching these bears during mating season. You cross your arms, glaring, while Max stomps his scent into the ground, grunting, 'look at me, I'm the biggest bad'ass bear in town,' he even has the walk down."
- Aunt Jess

Max Hunter is a Lumberjack- yep, that’s what I said…a LUMBERJACK!!!! I mean when you think of lumberjacks you think tall, built, brawny and sexy, and CP does not disappoint. He is a single man who has never really thought of settling down. His life is consumed by his family business and a trying to hep run a small town in Alaska, that he would do anything to protect.

Until Mia. Mia is a quirky zoologist who has an immense love for bears, loves funny cartoon tees and wears these big geeky glasses but when she stumbles (literally) into town, Max can’t keep that raven haired klutz out of his head. She has disaster written all over her- in more ways than one.

She was too damn everything to be anything but a pain in the ass. Long, black hair and crystal blue eyes, hidden behind ridiculously large glasses, she had the figure of a stripper and the look of trouble.

Mia is in town for research and will do everything in her power to protect the bears that she loves so much, but not everyone shares her feelings. After a string of murders, Mia finds herself as a prime suspect and lumberjack Max has made it is mission to do whatever possible to protect her.

"Why me?' I found myself asking.
"What?"
"Why me, why are you so hell bend on this?"
"Because my lungs locked up when I laid eyes you, and I didn't breathe again until I kissed you. You don't steal air from a drowning man, if you leave I won't be able to breathe," he whispered.

This is very much an instant love story but with an intense mad man like Max…there isn’t any other way it could be. He is a man who sees what he wants and makes it his. And one thing is for certain he wants Mia. Mia feels this intense calming peaceful feeling when she is with Max and she knows that if she allows herself she will fall hard and fast which will make her leaving completely impossible.

Between a mystery of a murder, a “casual” hookup that wasn’t quite so casual and a town full of people who will stop at nothing to protect their town, A Reason to Kill is a must read.

I loved this storyline and I loved the characters. From Max to Mia, to his crazy mom Maxine, and a wild and free spirit Aunt Jess- everyone (well almost) in Trails End is amazing.

The writing is beautiful. I loved the descriptions of Alaska- although sometimes a bit overly descriptive, they really did create an amazing picture of this small crazy yet cozy town of Trails End, Alaska.

"You're so fuckin' busy hiding behind those glasses you can't see the forest for the trees. I see you, Mia, I fuckin' see you for the both of us, and you take my breath away like no one else has before."

Congrats CP Smith on another fantastic release!
